Carla Cabanas
(Lisbon, 1979) Lives and works in Lisbon.
She graduated in Fine Arts at the Art School and Design, Caldas da Rainha in 2003. She completed the advanced course of Maumaus School - School of Visual Arts in 2004, in Lisbon. In 2008, the artist attended the photography course of the Gulbenkian Creativity and Artistic Creation Programme. In 2009 completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Production and Creation in Technological Arts in the Lusofona University, Lisbon.
Her work has also been developed in artistic residencies, namely: " MobileHome - Experimental Course in Contemporary Art " at Lagar Portas do Céu, em Loulé, 2009; “Transitante: entre álbuns e arquivos” International Artists Workshop in Intendente, Lisbon, 2012. “Viagens Invisiveis”, Sao Tome and Principe, 2013. The artist is currently a resident artist at Carpe Diem Art and Research.
She won an Honorable Mention in Photography Premio “Purificacion Garcia” in 2012 and in 2005 the third prize of Painting Ariane de Rothschild. In 2010/2011 received a scholarship of INOV -Art Programme of the Ministry of Culture of Portugal, to reside in Antwerp and be assistant artist David Claerbout.Her work is present in the Collection PLMJ Foundation, Collection Novo Banco , Banque Privée Edmond Rothschild Europe , the LPS Collection and several private collections. She has exhibited regularly since 2000.
Solo exhibitions stands out: “O que ficou do que foi – O álbum Martim Moniz” in Lisbon city musuem, 2014. “Saudades e lagrimas são o unico lenitivo para a grande ausência” in Carlos Carvalho – Contemporary Art Gallery, Lisbon, 2013; “O que ficou do que foi – O Álbum desconhecido” in the National Museum of Natural History and Science in Lisbon, 2012.
