Hugo Canoilas

(Lisbon, 1977) Lives and works between Lisbon and Vienna

Bachelor degree at the School of Arts and Design (2001), Master's degree in Painting at the Royal College of Art in London (2006). Hugo Canoilas's work is focused on reinventing the painting language. His work is about political and social issues, sometimes with a popular aesthetic.

Won several awards: 1st award Francisco Wandschneider, ANJE , Porto, in 2002; 1st Award Sammlung Lenikus, Austria, in 2001.

His work is represented by Galeria Quadrado Azul in Portugal, Workplace Gallery in London and Galleria Collicaligreggi in Italy.

His work is represented in various national and international collections: PLMJ Foundation (PT) , Carmona Foundation and Costa (PT) , Collection Caixa Geral de Depósitos (PT) , CCB - Centro Cultural de Belém (PT) Budapest Galéria (HU) Bank of Spain(ES).
