Pedro Tropa
(Santarém, 1973) Lives and works in Lisbon
Pedro Tropa studied Photography and Drawing at Ar.Co and took a degree at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, USA. He received a scholorship from Orient Foundation in 1997, 1998 and 2004 and held a series of trips to China, Mongolia and Tibet.
He works with photography and film, related to his travel experiences through different places, such as the Himalayas, the Alps, the Galayos or Mount Rosa. Landscapes, climbing, hiking and the confrontation with the mountain terrain are the source of his artistic process. His latest works are connected with drawing and photography, which together record the memory of the places, and set the different times that report to his memory.
From a various number of exhibitions we mention: Convocação (Modo Maior e Modo Menor) – Obras de Fernando Calhau from the Collection of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in collaboration with Tomas Maia, at CAM (2006-2007); O Veado, an exhibition in collaboration with Teresa Santos, at MNHN (2006); Cahier de Cent Dessins at Galeria Quadro Azul in Lisbon, a drawing and photography exhibition about the artist experiences during walks in the moutains around the world (2008); Travessia. Evidência.
