Rita GT
(Porto, 1980) Lives and works both in Portugal and Angola.
Graduate in Communication Design from Fine Arts University, Porto (2003), post-graduate in Escola Maumaus, Lisbon (2004/2005), currently enrolled in a Masters – MFA, Malmo Art Academy – Lund University in Malmo, Sweden.
A critical and intervening artist, approaching themes such as memory, identity or the importance of human rights. Having lived in many different countries enables her to have a broader vision, valuing the historical points of view of many cultures. The colonial symbolism that is recurrent in her work defines her own identity and artistic language. The artist uses imagery, words and performance revealing a constant interrogation and experimentalism in both material and conceptual aspects.

The artist is co-founder of the E-studio Luanda project. In 2015 she was commissary of Pavilhão de Angola, in the 56th Bienal in Venice, with curatorship of António Ole.
She has participated in various artist residencies, including: programa INOV-Art, Capacete residency, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, Brazil (2007-8) and Galeria ZDB, Lisbon (2006-7).
In 2013, she was awarded with the Moving Africa by the Goethe Institut, through the Wits University, Johannesburg, South Africa.
Her work is represented in the following public collections: PLMJ Foundation (PT); MNAC – Museu Chiado (PT); Colecção Norlinda e José Lima (PT); Instituto Camões – Luanda (AO).
