Rui Chafes
(Lisbon, Portugal, 1966) Lives and works in Lisbon.
He attended sculpture at the Fine Arts Academy in Lisbon between 1984 and 1989. He studied with Gerhard Merz at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf between 1990 and 1992. Exhibiting regularly since 1980 in Portugal and abroad, Rui Chafes representied Portugal at the Venice Biennale (with José Pedro Croft and Pedro Cabrita Reis in 1995) and at the São Paulo Biennale (in a joint project with Vera Mantero, 2004).
His work has been exhibited in institutions like the CAM Centro de Arte Moderna / Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (Lisbon), Museu de Serralves (Oporto, Portugal), Museu Colecção Berardo (Lisbon), S.M.A.K.
